About The Digital Ark
A free, community-driven platform preserving the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo tradition — the complete 81-book Canon, community prayer, heritage preservation, and spiritual growth tools for 60 million Tewahedo Christians worldwide.
Our Mission
The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church is one of the oldest Christian traditions in the world, tracing its roots to the 4th century and the baptism of the Ethiopian eunuch in Acts 8. For over 1,700 years, the Tewahedo faithful have preserved a unique biblical canon of 81 books, ancient Ge'ez manuscripts, sacred liturgical music, and a rich heritage of monasticism, fasting, and prayer.
Yet much of this heritage remains inaccessible to the global diaspora. Ancient manuscripts sit in remote monasteries. The 81-book Canon is difficult to find in digital form. Young Ethiopians growing up in Washington DC, London, or Toronto often lack easy access to the scriptures and traditions of their faith.
The Digital Ark exists to change that. We are building a digital cathedral — a place where the sacred texts, prayers, heritage, and community of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church are preserved and accessible to every believer, everywhere, for generations to come.

The 81-Book Ethiopian Canon
The Ethiopian Orthodox Bible is the most complete biblical canon in Christianity. While most Western traditions recognize 66 books (Protestant) or 73 books (Catholic), the Ethiopian Canon preserves 81 books — including texts that were widely read in the early Church but later excluded from other traditions.
Including Sirach, Tobit, Judith, and the Maccabees
The complete New Testament shared across all traditions
1 Enoch, Jubilees, and other texts unique to the Ethiopian tradition
Preserving 1,700 Years of Heritage
Ethiopia holds some of Christianity's most ancient treasures. The Garima Gospels, dating to the 4th-6th century, are the oldest illustrated Christian manuscripts in the world. The rock-hewn churches of Lalibela, carved from living stone in the 12th century, are often called the "Eighth Wonder of the World." The Ark of the Covenant, according to Ethiopian tradition, rests in the Chapel of the Tablet in Axum.
The Digital Ark preserves and shares this heritage digitally — manuscripts, icons, church architecture, liturgical traditions, the Ethiopian calendar with its feast days, fasting practices, and the stories of saints and scholars who shaped the Tewahedo tradition. Every heritage item is presented with historical context, theological significance, and connections to scripture.
